Performances of the Russian Art Grand Opera Company under the leadership of M.P. Panteleieff in America : 1930s (The Russia s twentieth century in cultural and historical context )
Abstract
M.P. Panteleieff (1887-1958) was a gifted operatic
singer and a prominent Russian musician who worked inthe
US in 1920-1930s. In 1931 he founded the Russian Grand
Opera Company in NewYorkCity which staged the operas in
Russian (Boris Godunov, Khovanchina by Moussorgsky, The
Golden Cockerel by Rimsky-Коrsakov).The cast included I.V.
Ivantzoff, Т.I. Sabanieeva and other famous operatic singers.
The part Boris Godunov was the main in Panteleieffs repertoire
(bаriton) and he performed it brilliantly. The Russian
Grand Opera performances had great success and won a
high appraisal of the American musical community.
