THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM OF THE XIX BC CITY-STATE OF ASSUR

Abstract

The paper examines the structure of law enforcement
system in the city-state of Assur.The functions and
role of various legal institutions are restored with the use of
public law sources and private documents from Kanish (Merchants
of Assur played the leading role in the creation of trading
colonies system in Asia Minor).
The representative of the city of Assur in Kanish played a
special role in the judicial system: he appeared in local courts
as a lawyer and witness.
