THE ROLE OF TOLSTOYAN MOVEMENT IN ORGANISING HELP FOR THE PERSECUTED CAUCASIAN DOUKHOBORS AT THE END OF XIX-EARLY XX CENTURY

Abstract

One of the most popular Russian social movements at the turn of XIX - XX centuries was “Tolstoyan Movement”, which promoted the ideas of peaceful Christian anarchism. In their social and political activity Tolstoyans paid great attention to cooperation with Russian sectarianism. This article discusses the problem of Tolstoyan representatives’ participating in aiding Russian Doukhobors who were in misery. The main directions of this aid and its results are determined
