THE NAMING OF CHRISTIANS OF MUSLIM CORDOBA: TRADITION AND PRACTICE

Abstract

For the first time in Russian historiography this article examines the practice of naming of Christians in Muslim Cordoba in mid-ninth century. The author studies the names of Christians to present the conditions of their co-existence with Muslims in a new powerful state of the Umayyads. The author has come to conclusion that part of Christians in Cordoba used their names in the struggle for the preservation of cultural identity as a mark of their otherness
