MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT OF MOSCOW AND PRINCE V.M. GOLITSYN’S ROLE IN ITS RADICAL CHANGES AT THE TURN OF THE XIX - XX CENTURIES
Abstract
The article discusses the results of Prince Vladimir Mikhailovich Golitsyn’s activities as a mayor of Moscow (1897-1905) and of the Moscow City Duma headed by him. The author analyses their activities in such spheres as: municipal services, improving the style of city management, business etiquette in Moscow at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. On the basis of previously unpublished archival materials the author analyzes the main changes in social and political situation in business and political elites of Moscow, as well as the way the patriarchal traditions of governing the city of Moscow. The author concludes that Prince V.M. Golitsyn’s governing period became a kind of university for Moscow managers of the new formation.
