HOLMGANG AS SACRED RITUAL IN KORMAK'S SAGA

Abstract
Article is considering holmgang in germanic culture of early Middle Ages as case of private war. Ritual features of trial combat demonstrates personal attitude to war and conflict, specific rules and regulations considering preparation and actual combat. Article is based on Kormak's Saga in comparison to legal documents considering trial by combat.
