The participation of the Sea Peoples in the disturbances in Egypt at he end of the XIX - beginning XX Dynasty
Abstract
the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III., which
confirms, in his opinion, the fact that the
place-name %T.t in the New Kingdom includes
not only the regions of Syria-Palestine, but
those that are traditionally considered as the
homeland of the Sea Peoples too (the Aegean,
the Southern Greece, the North-Western Asia
Minor). Based on this evidence the author supposes
that the mercenaries from the %t.tw mentioned
in the text of Elephantine stele as the
enemies of the Pharaoh Sethnakhte could be
the Philistines and the other groups of the Sea
Peoples which appear in Egypt and Palestine
at the end of the 13 - beginning 12 BC according
to the archaeological data (the excavations
in Tell es-Sa‛idiyeh by J. Tubb) and the textual
evidences (P. Louvre 3136, the inscription of
Ramses III. 5th regnal year in Medinet Habu).
