The position of Czekhes and Slovaks in Russian captivity in the period of the First World war (on the materials of Russian archives)
Abstract
Czech and Slovak prisoners of war during
World War the First, stationed in various military
districts of Russia, is investigated. Based
on the materials of Russian archives the policy
of Russian authorities towards the prisoners
of war is covered. The aspects of this policy
included the following issues: regulations by
laws and regulations by the labor of the prisoners
of the war on Russian enterprises and
agricultural work, the relationship between
the local population and the prisoners of the
war, the concern about their health, the possibility
of the Russian prisoners of the war to
gain Russian citizenship, the cooperation between
official authorities and the Red Cross in
order to provide assistance. The article shows
that in the works of our historians the materials
of Russian archives are not adequately
used, so one of the objectives of this article is
to increase the source base.
