The collars of sabre's blades from the area of the Zolotaryovskoye settlement of xi - xiii centuries

Abstract

The author of the article gives a
metrical description of one of accessories of
medieval sabers from the area of the Zolotaryovskoe
Settlement - a blades collar. The author
also analyses the technologies and methods
that were used to make such collars. It is the
first time some of the terms are introduced for
scientific use. All the examined issues are made
of a single iron plate. Some of the collars are
asymmetrical, and a front and back sides of the
collar can be distinguished. The front side has
often an ornament on it, and on the back side of
all issues is a seam of the two sides of the iron
plate having been combined to make the collar.
Generally, there are several types of collars,
that can be differed from the point of quality
and extent of decoration and whether they were
assembled directly on the saber or not. The quality
of the ornamented collars is better.
