The struggle of political parties of Australia on the country s entry into Korean War 1950 - 1953 (based on The Canberra Times )

Abstract

Australias participation in both Korean War and
other international military conflicts is one of insufficiently
explored themes in Russian historiography. This article describes
the struggle of main political parties of Australianon
the question of the countrys entry into the Korean War of
1950-1953. The article is based on the publications of The
Canberra Times, one of the leading Australian newspapers
in 1950-s. The author comes to the conclusion that the political
elite of Australia quickly reached full agreement on the
countrys entry into Korean War. It was due to the fear of the
world communismspread. The cold war escalationmade
Australia go under the US protection and become their ally.
As a result, the Australian military units took part in all military
conflicts in Asia, held under the U.S. auspices in the second
half of the XX - early XXI centuries.
