THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION INERESTS IN CENTRAL AMERICA: HISTORICAL FACTORS AND MODERN STRATEGIC ORIENTATION

Abstract

In the presented article, the author gives account of the establishment of interstate relations between Russia and Central American countries from their origin up to present days. The answers are given to such questions as how specifically were these relations established and what factors have influenced the foreign policy of Central American countries. In the article, a special accent is put on the transformation of the mentioned states’ policy considering recent events: unstable situation in Ukraine, Crimea’s accession to the Russian Federation, Western sanctions against Russia. Moreover, the author provides an outlook of Russian perspectives in the Central American region. Also author researches what interests our country has in this region.
