Energy factor in the relations between Baltic States and Russia in the 2005-2008
Abstract
The article examines in detail the aspects of energy diplomacy of the Baltic States from the emergence of plans to build a gas pipeline Nord Stream to August 2008. The current state of the search for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe`s energy independence from Russia in connection with the Russian-Georgian conflict over South Ossetia in August 2008 and, even more, "gas conflict" between Russia and Ukraine in December 2008-January 2009 makes contact to the roots of this confrontation.
