Статья посвящена крупнейшему деятелю разведывательного сообщества США в годы Второй мировой войны, шефу Управления стратегических служб - Уильяму Доновану (1883-1959). Автор изучает вклад Донована в становление и развитие структуры и конкретной работы американской стратегической разведки. Особый интерес у автора вызывают ключевые принципы и идеи Донована, ставшие принципами деятельности разведслужб США. Автор использовал в своей работе публикации соратников Донована, а также исследования ведущих современных историков. На этой основе автор делает выводы о значимости осуществленных У. Донованом идей в связи с участием США во Второй мировой войне и для американской разведки в целом.
The article is devoted to William Donovan (1883-1959), the major figure of the U.S. intelligence community during the World War II and the chief of the Office of Strategic Services. The author studies Donovan’s contribution to the formation and development of the structure and the specific work of the U.S. strategic intelligence. The author shows special interest to Donovan's principles and ideas that became the main principles of the U.S. intelligence. The author uses the publications of Donovan's colleagues, as well as the studies of leading contemporary historians. On this basis the author makes conclusions about the value of W. Donovan's ideas which were implemented, especially in connection of the U.S. participation in World War II, and for the American intelligence in the whole.
