В статье рассматривается история первой эмиграции запорожских казаков, продлившаяся долгие 25 лет. В ней показаны причины ухода в 1709 году значительной части запорожского казачества за пределы Российской империи, их адаптация в новом месте пребывания, вскрываются побудительные мотивы к возвращению на родину. Борьба за влияние над казаками-запорожцами рассматривается в контексте военно-политического противостояния России с Турцией, а также с некоторыми поддерживающими Османскую империю европейскими государствами.
The author investigates the history of the Zaporozhie Cossacks' first emigration which lasted for as long as 25 years. The article reveals the reasons why a significant number of the Zaporozhie Cossacks withdrew from the Russian empire in 1709. It also tells about their adaptation at the new place of residence and discloses their motives for returning to Russia. The struggle for influence over the Cossacks is considered in the context of the military and political opposition between Russia and Turkey and some other European countries, which supported Osman Empire.
